Anglo-German Club Meetings and Forthcoming Events

Here, you can find details of meetings and events that are coming up in the next few months

Saturday, 3rd November 2018 – from 5.00 pm:  "Guy Fawkes Night – AGC Bonfire Night"

The event will be held at the ‘Saupirzel Hütte', in Salmbach, the same place as the last two years but with a little twist this time. The owner has done a lot of work to the inside of the hut during the last year and will keep it for his private use in future. He has however offered the use of the enclosed part at the back of the hut. The evening will start at 5.00pm and we shall have our traditional bonfire and fireworks, as every year. Please make sure to wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear as we shall be outside for most of the time, we shall have the use of benches so that we can sit around the fire and toilet facilities are also available. There will be a good supply of Glühwein and a tasty soup to keep us warm, if you could just bring a little something for the buffet (but don’t overdo it this year as we have a limited amount of space!). To help the club cover the costs of the evening’s fireworks and for the hut (which the owner donates to the Kindergarten in Salmbach), we shall be charging all of those taking part a small fee of €3 each. Please bring along your family and friends.

Thursday, 8th November 2018 – 8.00 pm:  Braustüble "Bingo"

Because of Allerheiligen on the 1st November, our meeting will take place on the second Thursday of November. Whether you love it or hate it, bingo always seems to attract a lot of interest from our members. The bingo cards will cost the same as they have done for the last few years and if you’re lucky you may win one of our ‘no expense spared’ prizes! Come along and join in the fun.

Future Dates for your Diary

Thursday, 6th December 2018 – 8.00 pm:  Braustüble "Traditional Christmas Make and Bake Sale & Raffle"

Yes, it’s Nikolaus day, an appropriate day to hold our annual ‘Make and Bake’. All members are asked to bring homemade mince pies, biscuits, cakes, preserves, decorations, etc. for our table, to sell to other members. For those who do not have the time for baking and making, shop-bought goodies are also very welcome. All goods that are not sold will then be put into the raffle, the big prize in the raffle this year will be a bottle of Remy Martin. All the proceeds of the sale and raffle are for the general benefit of our Club and go towards subsidising various organised events.

Saturday, 8th December 2018 – from 6.00 pm:  **Christmas Dinner at the Adler Restaurant in Büchenbronn**

It really doesn’t seem like a year ago, but here it comes again. One of our highlights in the AGC calender, the Christmas Dinner has always been a great success. The Adler in Büchenbronn is an ideal venue and has never let us down, their functions room give us the possibility to be amongst ourselves. The festivities will begin at 6:00pm. with an aperitif and carol singing. We shall then have a traditional Christmas meal starting with soup or salad, turkey with all the trimmings and for dessert either Christmas pudding with brandy cream/butter, homemade mince pies and fruit salad. The rest of the evening’s entertainment is really left up to all of you. If anybody would like to perform a sketch, has a Christmas poem or story to read or any musical contribution we would be very grateful. We shall also have some music to have a bit of a dance to and if we’re very lucky, Mavis will teach us the ‘Gay Gordons’. A sign-up list will be available at the October and November meetings or you can get in touch with Charly or Claire Eberle . Please let us know if there are any special wishes concerning the meal, e.g. for the members who are vegetarian as we will have to contact the Adler to let them know beforehand. When the newsletter goes out, we will still be waiting for this year’s prices, we should have them by the time we meet at the October meeting. Please note that when you sign up we shall, as last year, take a deposit of €12, with the rest to be paid on the evening.

If you would like to join us or need any details about any of our meetings or events, please email the secretary,
